Background

In 2005 CanazWest Pictures was founded in Victoria, British Columbia, on the beautiful west coast of Canada.

Before heading west, Patricia was the Vice-President and Producer of the Canaz Corporation, a Toronto-based, boutique production company that she co-founded with her filmmaking colleague Michael Clark. Garnering numerous international awards for their work together and individually, a notable feature of their collaboration has been the innovative camera systems and technology designed by Michael and implemented in their productions.

Today from its headquarters in Victoria, CanazWest Pictures continues to create unique and compelling stories about the world around us. Since 2008, the company has produced several projects.  These include projects that bring awareness to the plight of the Asian elephant such as Return to the Forest, the 30-minute award-winning documentary narrated by William Shatner, which has screened at over a dozen international film festivals around the world. The follow-up feature documentary When Elephants Were Young, also narrated by William Shatner, tells the story of a young man and his young elephant street begging in Thailand, until the opportunity comes to release the elephant to the wild. The film was released theatrically in the USA and Canada, and worldwide on VOD on World Elephant Day August 12, 2016, and broadcast nationally in Canada on CBC Documentary Channel.

Patricia Sims is also the co-founder of World Elephant Day, an annual international awareness campaign launched on August 12, 2012, to bring the world together in the fight to save elephants from extinction. For more information, visit: worldelephantday.org
