Patricia Sims - Producer. Director. Writer

Patricia has enjoyed an exciting career of filmmaking and adventure, producing and directing documentaries around the world that focus on the inter-relationships between people, animals and habitats.  She has collaborated with some of the world’s leading conservation celebrities, scientists and explorers, with a specialization in wildlife and oceanographic productions.

Patricia began her career as a producer for Canadian network television (CityTV/MuchMusic) where she produced numerous factual series and specials. She lived in Japan for several years, honing her nature and underwater filmmaking skills while working as producer, manager and partner of the legendary world-record French free-diver, the late Jacques Mayol (subject of Luc Besson’s 1988 feature film “The Big Blue”).   

During her time in Japan she produced in association with various Japanese companies numerous television documentaries, books, product sponsorships and events about dolphins, whales, environmental and ocean conservation for NHK, NHK-BS2, TBS, TVAsahi, TVTokyo. She is currently working on the development and production of several international projects.

Selected director credits include:

  • Saving the Ayuquila River; Voices of the Chichinautzin - two documentaries shot in Mexico for the United Nations. (Best Feature Documentary Moondance Int’l Festival USA 2008, Best Documentary,  Festival de Memoria, Mexico 2008)
  • Beluga Speaking Across Time - a one-hour documentary shot in the Russian and Canadian Arctic for CBC, TV5, YLE, ARTE (Certificate of Merit Missoula Int’l Wildlife Film Festival USA 2002, screened at Wildscreen Int’l Festival UK 2002)
  • White Raven;  Fatal Light: A Bird’s Eye View;  Maya Pedal Power - three documentaries for TVAsahi’s Spaceship Earth series for national primetime broadcast in Japan
  • For the Love of Dolphins - a one-hour documentary hosted by the late Robert Hunter,co-founder of Greenpeace, for CityTV, CBC, Discovery (Bronze Apple, National Film and Video Festival USA, Certificate of Merit, Gabriel Film Festival USA)
